THEOPHRASTUS BOTANY

21st of May, smelling carnations. Since that time cuttings have been taken from the carnations, and many more dianthus have been included in the garden this year. Dianthus native to Europe. One my recent additions is a dianthus called "Cocktail", and it's beautiful to look at, so delicate.

It is written that in the language of flowers, that dianthus is a symbol of boldness, probably due to it's strong fragrance, although I associate white carnations with English weddings, as worn by the guests invited to it.

The Greek Theophrastus (371-287BC) mentioned the dianthus in his writings. "Theophrastus a student of Aristotle, who bequeathed to him his writings, and designated him as his successor at his School. Theophrastus was a scholar, botanist, biologist and physicist," he became known to some as the "Father of Botany". Although he was also into gems.

Apparently, Aristotle nick named the Greek botanist Theophrastus due to the grace of his conversation, and godly phrasing, i.e. divine expression. He was born on the Greek Island of Lesvos and he lived until he was 85, he is certainly a very interesting character.

One of the Reiki historians, Frank Arjava Petter (Germany) and his family are living on the Greek Island where Theophrastus was born.

I've been to Greece and it's Islands at least ten times, although I was drawn to the south.
