British people tend to be frugal during times of austerity, times of financial uncertainty, and people are certainly waking up to the fact that Chinese imports have impacted heavily upon British manufacturing. As written previously, austerity doesn't work as it brings the economy to a grinding halt, so now another 6,000 jobs about to go, and pound land are also closing stores say the Daily Mail.
When austerity is on the menu, people can't afford to shop at department stores.
