CANNES, France -- Thieves broke into the room of a House of Chopard employee at the Novotel hotel and stole jewels that were being kept in a safe.

The robbery took place just hours after the cast of director Sofia Coppola's new film The Bling Ringwalked the red carpet Thursday night for the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The Bling Ring is a true story about a group of teens who broke into celebrity homes to steal their valuables.

Chopard was hosting a gala event across town at the same time.

It was the house of Chopard that designed the 'Golden Palm' award for the film festival and wiki share with us that it was unveiled on the 24th May, 1998. There is also a Chopard trophy that honors two film 'revelations'. It is presented as the Male and Female Revelation of the year.

Actor Christoph Waltz rushed off stage when gun shots were heard at the film festival on Friday.
