Cinnamon Lentil Soup

I mentioned on the Nepal and Nicole post, that the cinnamon spice had been given again. So this evening I've made a sweet spicy lentil and carrot soup, and I included the following ingredients,
tasting as I was going along.

NEPAL

1 teaspoon of cinnamon
4 cloves of garlic
4 spice cloves
4-6 cardamon
1 large green chili
1 teaspoon of coriander
Handful of chopped onions
2 handfuls of red lentils
3 large carrots grated
Black pepper, and rock salt to taste.

Added for further taste

2 tablespoons of honey
2 heaped teaspoons of tomato puree
4 tablespoons of yoghurt + if you like more

You can gently saute the the spices, onion and garlic in olive oil or palm oil prior to adding to the washed lentils in a pan of water that you feel is sufficient. Remember we are cooking a nice thick soup like a stew. In fact, when finished it looks like the color of a beef stew. Although the nutrients in this sweet spicy soup is far more healthy for you. Especially, if you're aged 50 or over. Its a good one for the ladies, and due to its sweetness, children would probably like it as well.

To accompany the soup, I am having pitta bread and inside the flat bread I have put a couple of teaspoons of coconut and some sultanas with a dab of palm oil.  Also dabbed some almond essence on the outer of the pitta bread prior to heating in the oven.

Its an unusual dish, and heartwarming for a cool evening, if you like soup with a sweet and unusual flavor, cinnamon lentil-carrot soup might get your taste buds going again.

Bon appetite!
