REGEM-MELEK

Following on from the 'Darius' message Zechariah 7 was mentioned. The chapter is called 'Justice and Mercy, not Fasting'. It mentions the fourth year of King Darius; and a man called Regem-Melek that had been sent with Sharezer by the people of Bethel. Sent to the priests of the house of the LORD almighty and the prophets. Zechariah is briefed by the LORD, 'Administer true justice, show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot 'evil' against each other.

But they 'refused to pay attention'; 'stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears'. They made their hearts as 'hard as flint' and would not listen to the law or to the words that the LORD Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the LORD Almighty was very 'angry.'  'When I called, they did not listen, so when they called, 'I would not listen'.

The name REGEM-MELEK can mean 'kings heap', and he did spend time with the priests. In the scripture he was the Israelite leader and a son of Jahdai. The only place the name Jahdai seems to appear is in the book of Chronicles.

This tells me that the Son of Joseph was named after Regem-Melek by his Father. He was also given the middle name of Alexander. After Joseph had brought up his other sons, he hoped that his youngest son would do what is described as being right. He did do that to the best of his ability. However, outside influences intervened, and he died of 'lung cancer', due to what was being done to him and his family. What took place is beyond measure; and few men could have overcome what he went through. I was in my mid 30's at the time, and it was really difficult to face. At one point our family home even had to have police protection when my son was there for a visit.

Paul McCartney had such hope for humanity when he sang this song with Linda by his side. Just like the RAB did with his wife. He did get low at times, although he usually bounced back.
