WASPI PENSIONS UPDATE

Latest news on the WASPI campaign representing 1950s women and their pensions. This article says that reports by the ombudsman could be available in January 2024 and the final stage 3 report will recommend to the government what level of compensation, if any, should be paid to affected women.

"The ombudsman has already determined there was "maladministration" of the state pension age increase for women, when the age rose previously from 60 to 65 and later to 66.

Previously, economists have said that the cost to 1950s women was up to £50,000 per woman.

Jeremy Hunt was proud of what he'd achieved. He even bragged to Republicans in America about what he'd done to this generation of women.

It is also important to note that no other European country implemented the rise of the pension age has fast as the British government did. In EU countries it has been phased in much slower, giving women the time to adapt and plan financially.

The British government do plan to increase the pension age even further. A woman in her 40s, a head teacher of a primary school shared that she'd been told she wouldn't be able to retire until she is 70. At least she's had 25-30 years notice to plan accordingly.
