The two women were "refusing and rejecting" any other reality than their own. They had been so involved and into their own realities that they hadn't kept up to date with the latest science.

I do have gin on my breath every day, because I eat golden sultanas that have been soaked in gin every day for my health. It is a health remedy for my hands and many people have found that the remedy works, the power of gin and it's juniper. My hands were strengthened and pain removed.
