AVON Emanuela Orlandi

North American cosmetics company Avon plans to move its HQ from New York, to Britain and cut 2,500 jobs worldwide as a turnaround plan the BBC report. It also says that it sold most of the business to a private investment firm, 'Cerberus'. Avon employs over 28,000 people.

Its a long time ago since I worked on the Avon account doing casting sessions for them in the 70's.

It makes you wonder how many more ailing North American businesses have their eyes on moving into the UK. Do they really think that the UK can save AVON?

The name 'Cerberus' comes from Greek mythology and Avon Cosmetics reminds us of the mysterious disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi, from the Vatican City on the 22nd June 1983.

What else as Avon been up to? In 2008, Avon was investigated due to its practices. There has been big trouble in China since that time, and in 2011, PETA delisted Avon. 2013 closure in France, and in 2014, Avon France went into receivership.

Multi-level marketing is an American method, and Europeans don't really like it. If people post any catalogues through my door, I just give it back to them when they come back to collect them. Or leave it on the doorstep. I think we've got enough cosmetic companies operating in the UK.
