Government vets in Northern Ireland are on strike over a pay increase. That means disruption for border controls and food production. The Belfast Telegraph repot that these vets carry out checks on animals and some food products moving from Great Britain to NI, as well as monitoring the operation of abattoirs. Unless vets are in abattoirs, the slaughter of cattle, pigs, sheep or poultry cannot take place.
On the home front, the British government has extended the Covid regulations until the 1st of April 2026 and that should alarm everyone.
