A Norwegian neuroscientist brain researcher found writing by hand has higher connectivity with the brain in comparison with typing on a keyboard. Writing by hand in the classroom also improves spelling accuracy and memory function. The study was carried out with 36 students on the university campus.

I'm not surprised at all. We were very fortunate at our secondary school, we had an English teacher that also taught us how to write in Italics. During my life, employers and work colleagues often mentioned my handwriting and that it was easy to read.
