AFOXOLANER NEXGARD DANGEROUS

This website shares that "Afoxolaner is the active ingredient in NexGard, it is an insecticide and acaricide which travels through your dog's bloodstream and kills pests by over-stimulating their central nervous system".

"Side effects of these pharmaceuticals can cause vomiting, itching, diarrhea, lethargy and lack of appetite".

Dogs can also experience seizures after taking it. Research and Freedom of Information requests in America show that there have been sufficient fatalities to stop the administering of this drug to your pets on a monthly basis.

In 2017, 57 dogs died due to being given NexGard and there is likely to be far more fatalities due to a majority of people not making a report.

Change.org had a petition titled 'Nexgard (flea & tick treatment) should be removed from the market without delay". The petition attracted 6,343 signatures.

The only action that the FDA has taken is to tell the manufacturers of this genre of drug to make sure the labelling includes the information about the possible adverse effects. However, how many people actually read the information in the box they are given? Shouldn't the vet explain the potential for side effects, wouldn't a professional do that? Of course they should.

  1. This article says that Lungworm arrived 30 years ago, (the article is dated 2011) so that means we are talking 40 years. Seems to coincide with EU membership and bigger imports. I have to say that 40 years ago we never had fruit flies, that is something else that has arrived from abroad.
