In spiritual symbology, barley is a symbol of renewal of life, resurrection and fertility, it also indicates the return of Spring of the land. In Greece, it also depicts fertility and fruitfulness. No coincidence then that I was compelled to make chicken with orange, and pearl barley with apple and a lot more ingredients that included cumin and fennel.

Barley was also associated with Kore/Demeter and the White Goddess. [1] Interesting the connection with Greece, as in recent days I have been sharing about what has been happening in Greece.

In the book of Ruth, six measures of barley is to do with the mother-in-law. In the book of Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, 2:15, the barley is what the servants of the Lord bring with the wheat, olive oil and wine as promised. I did ask my son to get me some flour, and he did get me some olive oil, sometimes he buys me a bottle of wine.
In the book of Isaiah, chapter 28:25, NIV 'When he has leveled the surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cumin? Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot, and spelt in its field? I also like caraway seeds on white cabbage and that reminds me to make some kimchi.
